The MTA has released new proposed plans as part of the Long Island Railroad’s Main Line Expansion Project which would stretch from Floral Park to Hicksville, impacting thousands of passengers.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the enhanced main line will improve train service, safety, and quality of life for thousands of commuters, resulting in “less traffic, less congestion and a transportation network that meets the needs of current and future generations of Long Islanders.”

Updated details of the project also include a five-lane underpass at a New Hyde Park Railroad crossing and the added bonus of zero residential property acquisitions.

Up to 40 percent of the LIRR’s 308,000 daily passengers go through the main line. So, for commuters, the new main line may improve their daily routine.

Cuomo will be holding the first of six public hearings regarding the project on January 17.
